The internet is like everything that came before it, but so much more. More powerful than the greatest words ever written or spoken in any language, more powerful than any image or symbol ever seen, more powerful than hope or fear, more powerful than religion, faith itself, the totality of the human spirit. The invisible infinite that rules over our lives whether we want it to or not. But really, who doesn’t? Everyone wants a master, everyone needs some version of God.

God is everywhere. God can be in anything. Anyone. God is God—omnipotent, omnipresent.

We’re all perfect creatures of God, figuring out our own way back to Him.

To the Catholic, including the quasi-Catholic and twice-a-year Catholic, all manner of actual and heterodox and lapsed Catholics, a church service is really about ritual.

The Spirit. That thing on loan from God, that thing He’ll eventually want back.

We’re supposed to be ourselves, a mixture of the good and the bad. But mostly the bad. Those are our best parts to God. Opposites attract. We were made in His image, but from His bad side. And He made us that way so that His love, which is really all love, can course through us, can lift us up. It’s so much stronger when people aren’t perfect. Demands more from us, requires more love. We love each other to heal each other and ourselves through the very substance of God.

God is about love. But it is a perfect, pure love. There must be some justice in that. Order. We’re supposed to do right, not wrong. Like you said, we are made bad, Ray. And that is why it is so important to be good. At all times. Being good requires sacrifice. People can’t just do what they want all the time, occasionally do some nice things for others on their own terms, call themselves loving, and still join God in heaven. You don’t get to make up the rules.
