When we depend on the outside world for our happiness, there are billions of causes that can take away our joy. We need to find an anchor which can tie us to our happiness like a ship is tied to the shoreline. We need to board this big ship to achieve stability and protect ourselves from the uncertain waves of life.

Our beliefs are like the boundaries of our mind, which protect us from external manipulations like tall boundary walls protect us from external aggression. Little do we realise that all forms of beliefs gradually become a prison to our mind.

You must treat an evil-doer in the same spirit as a doctor treats a patient and develop sympathy for him. It is better to maintain distance from unhealthy people and protect yourself rather than become intimate with them and later curse them for infecting you with their viruses.

While it may not be a good idea to take excessive interest in the happenings of the world, it is also not desirable to shut your eyes to it and become aloof and indifferent to the pains or joys of others. It is our awareness of the world that provides us an opportunity to learn from the experience of others—a bad experience that someone has gone through prompts us to take precautions and protect ourselves from a similar fate.
