If I have not challenged you to something better, I have doomed you to something worse.

I must not imagine what is ‘not’ as a means of escaping what ‘is’. Rather, I must understand what ‘is’ and imagine how I can make it what it is ‘not’.

In our frenzied attempts to catch up with life, we run right past it. Once we have run past it, what we are in reality attempting to catch is ourselves.

I can choose to see a horizon as yet another indistinct place that I can barely make out from where I’m standing, or I can see it as the backside of a glorious tomorrow. And the attitude that I choose to embrace will dictate every horizon that I get to pursue.

My faith is not some escapist fantasy born of my inability to face reality. Rather, it is the belief in a reality that supersedes the one that I am being accused of escaping from. And because that’s the case, that reality demands more of me than would have been demanded had I stay put. So, if I am in fact escaping, it’s escaping to something better which is entirely different than fleeing from something that I fear.

The idea is to always be attempting things that are greater than who I am. Otherwise I will never be more than who I am. That is why I prefer the call of God over the plans of men, for the former is a call to the impossible and the latter is a summons to what I did yesterday.

If I place any challenge into the hands of God, all I can see are hands.

It has nothing to do with what the mountain in front of us is. Rather, it has everything to do with what God is going to do to it.

In whatever battle we're facing, we too often lose hope. And once we've lost hope we've not only lost the battle, we've lost everything else as well.
