I am far too often the author of terribly poor decisions. Yet I must rest in the unalterable fact that God says I am far better than what the sum total of those decisions would ever suggest.

Christmas embodies everything that I need. However, everything that I need is often made up of a lot of stuff I don’t want.

I thought myself sufficiently shrewd to make whatever decisions I wanted to make, and then to be able to sufficiently steer those decisions away from the rather dark and nasty places they would naturally take me. And I stand oddly perplexed that suddenly everything around me is dark and nasty.

Be careful that the decisions that you ‘make’ are not forging the chains that you cannot ‘unmake’ because those are the chains that will eventually ‘unmake’ you.

If I’m concerned about why I’ve changed in the way I have, I might start by being concerned about the places where I’ve been.

Freedom (properly understood) is less about the privilege that we’ve been granted to make decisions. Rather, I think that it’s far more about the opportunity that we have not to make them when we shouldn’t.

The minute that stands in front of me has plenty of room within it to birth a new start. And if that is so, the next sixty seconds could change everything.

So, there’s this hornet’s nest. And there’s this long stick. And then there’s me. How I walk away from all of this will depend on whether I realize that some things go together and some things don’t no matter how hard you try.

Sometimes I just sit and stare out of the window wondering what the world is going to do today. And my prayer is that what the world does today is based on Who God is every day.
