It’s not enough to watch the great people in our lives and wish ourselves to be like them. Rather, it’s realizing that we need to wish ourselves to be the best version of us. For then, we will be like the people we’ve been watching.

If we wish to identify the truly great things in life, we can identify them by the fact that no matter how much we are exposed to them or how often we’re privileged to engage them, they remain great despite what our perception of them might do to them.

True greatness does not arise from the achievements in my life. Rather, it is born out of an appreciation for my life.

We are deathly afraid of attempting great things, yet on the other hand we are also deathly afraid of missing great things. But the larger question in all of this might be, “Why is it that great things matter to us in the first place?” They matter because God made us for great things.

I cannot create greatness as I can only create weak facsimiles. And in sorting through the innumerable facsimiles around me, I will only happen upon true greatness when I happen upon the true God.

Authentic greatness involves doing great things and then saying that I had nothing to do with it because God had everything to do with it. Anything else is my ego on a bender.

Greatness untethered from God results in calamity unrestrained by men.

Far too often, it is at the moment where we finally stand on the very precipice of some great thing that we turn and abandon it, for it is at these seminal moments that fear wins and greatness dies. The beauty of Christmas is that God steps over precipices.

Greatness is the born of ordinary men who decided to work extraordinarily hard.
