If I have not challenged you to something better, I have doomed you to something worse.

If by growing up you mean allowing the adult within me to abandon the child within me, I have no interest in such a horrid proposition. If instead you mean to let each enhance the other at the exclusion of neither, I have every interest.

To read and to not have been changed in the reading is to have picked up a book without it ever having picked you up.

If the words are just words, then the book is just pages. But if the words capture great ideas and intimately frame them so that our lives are transformed by the weight of them, then you have a book that can never be defined by its pages.

It’s not enough to watch the great people in our lives and wish ourselves to be like them. Rather, it’s realizing that we need to wish ourselves to be the best version of us. For then, we will be like the people we’ve been watching.

Remember, laying on the ground looking up grants us an invaluable perspective that will dramatically enhance what everything will look like when we’re back on our feet.

Today is the one place where the lessons of a painful yesterday are drawn together to shape the face of a different tomorrow. And the phenomenal thing about all of that is that today happens seven days a week.

Sitting down with a great book means that when you stand up, you will be a completely different person from who you were when you sat down.

Growing up means changing what we know so that we might finally come to know how much there is that we can really change.
