Treasures are hidden away in quiet places.  They speak in soft tones and often become silenced as we approach.  They don’t beg to be found, but embrace us if we do happen to find them.  They are the product of completely ordinary circumstances unfolding in wonderfully extraordinary ways.  They are found hidden in the nooks and crannies of our existence; all around us if we quit allowing our attention to be captivated by that which is noisy and listen for that which is quiet and still.

Some of the very things that we so desperately need are hidden in plain sight because we can’t understand how something so plain can contain something so powerful. But is that not the way that God most often shows up?

What we build certainly might look like a refuge, but if it wasn't designed by God it's something more akin to a leaky tent in the middle of a category 5 hurricane on a Monday morning. Nothing about it is good.

I have diligently disciplined my life to search out life’s gifts in the very places where society mistakenly says life stores its scraps. And I am constantly amazed that in the treasure trove that surrounds me, I stand in the company of so few.

If I’m perplexed by the fact that I’m constantly lost, maybe somewhere in my head I’ve determined that being lost serves a greater purpose than being found.

There are many places where we choose to hide. And in the hiding, we soon realize that hiding never eliminates what we are hiding from.

We can hide a lot of stuff until God shows up, for when God shows up nothing is hidden, which includes both our embarrassment and His forgiveness.

Apathy is unconditional surrender where we are driven into hiding by unrealistic fear, and firmly held there by the misinformed belief that we are helpless to do anything other than hide. Therefore, apathy survives solely on lies and can be completely abated by truth.

We must always remember that the darkness might hide everything, but it eliminates nothing.
