I am not big enough to be my own refuge, but my ego thinks itself big enough to be a refuge from that reality.

If men built it, it’s not a refuge. Only God possesses that kind of material and only He has the craftsmanship to use it.

It is likely that you remain incessantly troubled and fitfully anxious because you have sought out refuge in some person or institution that is at the very same time attempting to find refuge for themselves. For the only Person Who is His own refuge in order to be ours is God.

Any refuge other than God is probably something that I should seek refuge from rather than seek refuge in.

Maybe I can’t fight this battle because I was never supposed to in the first place. And maybe that’s because God wanted me to ‘sit this one out’ so that He could step up and ‘take this one out.

Any place that I ‘run to’ most often turns into a place that I have to ‘run from’, unless of course that place is God.

What we build certainly might look like a refuge, but if it wasn't designed by God it's something more akin to a leaky tent in the middle of a category 5 hurricane on a Monday morning. Nothing about it is good.

Comfort is not a goal that I seek, rather it is a place that I hide.

Any refuge that I create is something akin to a cardboard box in the rain. The harder the rain, the more boxes I go through.
