If I can live without that which I seek, I have errantly chosen to seek something that is not worth seeking.

Sometimes the thing that’s chasing me does so most effectively by leading me to believe that I’m chasing it.

If for even a moment I would pull myself away from this mad search for everything that I don't have to take a look at everything that I do have, this mad search would instantly devolve into a calm peace. And if there’s one thing I don’t have that has driven this mad search, you can bet that this is probably it.

Despite all of our incessant tinkering, we can’t manufacture the things we most desperately need. And if perchance we do, they will never be more than pathetically emaciated facsimiles that will leave us emaciated. And until we finally realize that we can only ‘find’ these things, we will never sense any compulsion to ‘find’ God.

What we seek is a reflection of what we will become if we happen to find it. Therefore, if what we seek is driven by the baseness of our greed, finding it might mean losing us.

Treasures are hidden away in quiet places.  They speak in soft tones and often become silenced as we approach.  They don’t beg to be found, but embrace us if we do happen to find them.  They are the product of completely ordinary circumstances unfolding in wonderfully extraordinary ways.  They are found hidden in the nooks and crannies of our existence; all around us if we quit allowing our attention to be captivated by that which is noisy and listen for that which is quiet and still.

Peace is not elusive. It’s just that we want to create it, which doesn’t really make it elusive. It makes it impossible. Yet, the peace that I have is in remembering that with God, nothing is impossible.

We wonder why peace is elusive. Simply put, anything is elusive if we’re looking for it in the wrong places. And if God doesn’t have something to do with our search, we’re definitely in the wrong place.

The greatest joy is not finding something that we’ve been looking for. The greatest joy is when we’d given up on ever finding it and then it found us.
