After enough failed attempts to rescue myself, I finally realized that I am my own worst first responder.

The Bible says that “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” But I would wonder if the greater fool is the one who (in his stubbornness) incessantly tells himself there is no God because there’s just enough God in him somewhere that’s incessantly telling him otherwise.

How many times has our conscience firmly prompted us to ‘draw the line,’ and we showed up with an eraser?

It’s not about crafting a ‘failed’ solution. It’s about ‘failing’ to stop crafting ‘failed’ solutions. Yet, such is the destiny of those who have yet to understand that a solution that does not include God solves nothing other than solving nothing. And that is no solution.

And while following God might be deemed by many as ignorance, or escapism, or legalism, or some other negative label, I would simply say, “Look around you.” “Look around you.” And in doing so ask, “Is the fool the one who continually attempts to sail sunken ships, or the one who follows a risen Christ?

We think that digging the well means that we don’t need to rely on the God Who created the spring. Either way, He created the water in both.

It’s less that we’re missing the gift of vision and more that we have the tendency to obstruct it.

In no way do I want my stubbornness tamed. Rather, I want the whole of it brought into submission to God so that it might be doubled, even tripled in unchecked obedience to His service.

If I choose to take the pen from God and write the story of my life without Him, I better have plenty of erasers and a whole lot of white-out. Better yet, I should invest in a good shredder.
