In the vast majority of cases, what I ‘need’ is actually what I ‘want’ dressed in clever disguise.

Sometimes you can have everything you want but fail to achieve anything you need.

Sometimes the thing that’s chasing me does so most effectively by leading me to believe that I’m chasing it.

If we chase the things that ‘tickle our ears,’ we’ll probably end up finding out that they’re going to ‘torture our lives.

I rigorously lament all of the many things that I don’t have. But in this self-imposed and rather lively pity-party to which I’ve invited myself, what I forget are the resources I do have that equip me to obtain what I don’t.

What I need is not that which I find, for what I need is far bigger than my ability to find it. What I need is that which finds me. Hence, Christmas.

There’s a really good chance that I’ve confused what I ‘need’ with what I ‘want.’ And if that’s the case, I’m looking for both in the wrong place.

The search for what I need begins when it stops being about the search for what I need.

If I were to eliminate all of the things that I ‘want,’ I would be left with all of the things that I ‘need.’ And inevitably, such an action would leave me standing before God caught up in the stunning realization that in Him is everything that I ‘want’ and all that I ‘need.’ And how is it that I could not ‘need’ God and ‘want’ both?
