To love is to risk.  To not love is also to risk.  Yet when it comes to love, the greatest risk is incurred when we give risk that much power.

Bravery is to acknowledge that we are cowards who have committed ourselves to keeping our cowardice on a very short leash.

At the point that I've allowed my fear of the problem to exceed my faith in God, the problem itself has become my god. And when I am so foolish as to permit gods of this sort, I have chosen to live a life of the most troubled sort.

Doing ‘nothing’ is often cowardice that we’ve dressed up to look like discretion.

Hating is the coward’s way of refusing to be vulnerable.

Of course I can run, but what I’m running from is the reality that I can’t run.

It is not the presence of fear that bothers me. Rather, it is the cowardice within me that refuses to face the fear. That is what bothers me.

If there’s any redeeming quality that I can find in running away from something, it’s that I’m on my feet. Now all I’ve got to do is alter my direction.

Sometimes we find that responsibly discerning something from a distance is nothing more than cowardice creating an excuse to keep our distance from that which we fear. And when that’s the case, life will shut down our discernment so that we are left with no option but to engage what we would otherwise run from.
