Let us not fall prey to the leaching negativity and rank pessimism that runs unleashed all around us. Rather, with the utmost determination we must bring ourselves to understand that these lies have been given legitimacy by people who thought themselves as powerless in the face of them, rather than recognizing that we have the power to rip the face off of them.

We have watched men and women expend the whole of their lives brilliantly form-fitting the Word of God to the ever-changing contour of the culture. Yet, true brilliance is found in recognizing that the ‘ever-changing’ contour of the culture is a result of the fact that we’ve refused to form-fit it to the ‘never-changing’ contour of scripture. And anything less than that is brilliance brilliantly faked.

In a culture gone increasingly rogue, it has become apparent that our actions are designed to bypass the questions whose answers would invalidate those actions. And are we naïve enough to believe that because we bypass the questions, the questions will not eventually answer themselves at our expense?

In any culture where agendas have shaped ethics, we will find a culture that has in fact purged itself of ethics. And that means that in time there will be no culture.

To take a stand based on the fickleness of the culture verses the weight of principle is to believe that part of standing up is falling off a cliff.

Although it might state otherwise, I don’t think that the world finds anything compelling that’s always shifting to adjust to wherever the world’s going. I think that what the world finds compelling is something so indisputably enthralling that the world is always shifting to adjust to it. And the only thing that I know that has both the power and the character to be that enthralling is God.

Should the whole culture stand up and vehemently scorn the principles of God, we should likewise stand in committed defense of them. And despite the commitment of the culture to the abolishment of God, when the smoke clears everything will have stood-down except those who stood-up for God.

If I errantly define myself by the limiting rubrics of a limited culture, I will not even begin to understand the slightest fraction of who I am. What I need to realize is that God does not work in fractions.

Despite the voices of the culture that would scream otherwise, victory is irreparably tied to the surrender of self. And that explains why so few are truly victorious.
