Patience is where we realize that to rush something is to compromise it to its own destruction. Maturity is to realize that the most effective way to stop the destruction is by beginning to develop patience. And the first place that we need to do that is with ourselves.

If I can’t quite figure out what an ego is, all I have to do is look for the thing that’s killing itself in the very act of feeding itself.

When I read the ghastly lines of tragedy darkly penned into my life, I turn and notice that the pen in my hand is wet.

I can work on changing what I’ve become. Or I can stop engaging in the things that have made me become the person I’m trying to change. And if I’m not serious about the latter, I can forget the former.

Maybe we ought to consider that sometimes the most destructive outcomes in our lives are the ones that we’ve created.

I am the greatest obstacle to my greatest dreams.

To take the ‘easy way’ is to walk a path that doesn’t exist to the edge of a cliff that does.
