I thought myself sufficiently shrewd to make whatever decisions I wanted to make, and then to be able to sufficiently steer those decisions away from the rather dark and nasty places they would naturally take me. And I stand oddly perplexed that suddenly everything around me is dark and nasty.

A true leader never has to put his ‘big boy pants on’ because he’s never taken them off.

Leadership must embody servanthood, for without it leadership will become the embodiment of our selfish agendas. And leadership of that sort will lead us to places that none of us want to go to.

If I look closely, my failures are less about my inadequacies and more about the fact that I channel my abilities into the wrong places.

A consequence may be the very thing that saves us because it was the only thing loud enough to get our attention.
