It’s not that I’ve been invited to the hole I’m standing in. It’s that I accepted the invitation.

If we want to expand the hole in our lives left by the absence of God, fill it will everything that won’t.

God has no interest in filling the holes within us. Rather, He wishes to eliminate them.

The depth of the hole might be determined by the foolishness of my choices, but the foolishness of my choices never determines the length of God’s arm.

Other than a gaping hole, I won’t leave anything in life by taking everything from life. And if I don’t take anything from that statement, I’ll always be living at the bottom of the hole I’ve dug, wondering where I put the ladder I never had.

My prayer is that none of us would ever find ourselves at the bottom of a hole looking up, but if we happen to find ourselves there my prayer would be that God would be at the top of the hole reminding us that He’s also at the bottom.

Although it pains me to admit it, I am quite familiar with the holes in life. And this familiarity is due to the fact that I spend far more time in these holes than I spend on the paths that brought me to them.

I'm in a hole because at some point I found a shovel and started digging. Maybe I should trade my shovels for ladders and start climbing.

Nearly everyday life leans over and says, ‘Come on down!’ But standing at the bottom looking up, it’s finally dawned on me that it’s not these invitations that have dug this hole. Rather, it’s the fact that I accepted them.
