I have found that unless I surrender every part of my life to God every part of my day, I will end up missing most every part of my life every day of my life.

I watched the sunset last night. And given the utter brilliance of it, I likely sat in the company of thousands who found themselves awash in its blaze of colors as well. But sadly, it is just as likely that I was surrounded by thousands of others who never saw the colors because they were awash in lesser things. And I realized that far too often I am in the company of those people. Therefore, I’ll be sitting outside tonight.

Our vision is narrowed by the fear of what we might see if we dare to look, when what we should fear is what we might miss if we don’t.

Overhead there lies an uninterrupted ocean of delicate blue whose expanses are freely coursed by majestic white behemoths quietly sailing to distant horizons. And under our feet there are listless expanses of emerald-green brilliantly splashed by the golden pigment of a thousand dandelions. And to stand in unbridled awe of both is to miss neither, for to miss such things is to miss life itself.

By choosing comfort we are in the very same decision choosing to miss every great thing in life, and that thought should be anything but comforting.

To intentionally pass on opportunity is to intentionally pass on living.

If we’re missing life it’s probably because we’re expecting it to reveal itself to us, rather than realizing that life is revealed by us looking for it.
