If my heart is set on pursuing real treasures, my mind must be fixed solely on the privilege of enjoying them and freed of the obsession of owning them.

What I don’t have gnaws at me until I get it. And once I get it, I forgot that I wanted it because it was not about the need to have whatever it was that I wanted. Rather, it was about getting rid of the insecurities surrounding the fact that I did not have it.

If possessing everything is the ‘everything’ of my existence, maybe losing everything is the only ‘thing’ that I really need right now.

Thankfulness acknowledges that we can’t own anything, but we can experience everything. And just knowing that makes me thankful.

The key to understanding if something is truly precious is to ask if we can hold it, for things truly precious cannot be held.

There’s only one person walking in my shoes, and that’s me. And to state that someone else somehow slipped into them and therefore walked me out to this horrible place is to forget that, shoes or not, I still can choose where to walk.

Despite the illusions that I so readily embrace, whatever I hold can’t be held, for in time, time will steal it away. But time can’t hold God. Therefore, of all the things around me, my hands should be full of God and empty of everything else.
