How is it that my prayers have devolved into a laundry list of requests verses an endless litany of praises? It may be that I’ve replaced the magnificence of God’s divinity with the baseness of my desires.

I can get on my knees and pray all day, but until my attitude is on its knees nothing will be different once I’m back on my feet.

Prayer is never the ‘last resort.’ Rather, it is always the ‘first response.’ For if I begin with prayer, there will never be a last resort.

I sit leaned over praying in some state of darkening desperation asking God what He would have me do to get up and change a world gone wild. And He says, it is in the moments of prayer that you heal the wildness of the world. So it’s not about getting up as much as it is about sitting down.

The greatest stance that I can take has nothing to do with standing, rather it has everything to do with dropping…to my knees.

If I were to sit down and count them, how many of my prayers were tainted by the seduction of greed? None, simply because nothing of that sort is a prayer.

If I am indeed my own god, I’d better start praying to myself to get myself out of myself.

Prayer is one action where I lay aside my abilities to immerse myself wholly in God’s capabilities. And the liberation found in such an action is less about being engaged with God and more about being freed from myself.

I want to live a life where prayer is the first thing that I do, the second thing, the third thing, and the last thing after the prayer has been answered.
