The problem with holiness is that once we look into the face of it we are no longer capable of taking that which is odious and filthy and somehow pretending that it’s translucent and clean. In other words, we have to do one of the most revolting things possible; we have to face ourselves.

When it comes to my life, I may chase the pay-off of the moment or I may pay-it-forward into my future. Yet, being ‘righteous’ in these choices may grant me neither so that God might grant me everything.

Life is not about getting everything right, as much as it’s about working to live right.

I don’t think that there are many true leaders. For a true leader possesses both the seasoned acumen and the utterly fearless temperament to slice through the boggy agendas and the cumbersome biases that lesser people have come to justify as wholly good and impeachably righteous simply because these lesser things have become the whole of their calling. And no true leader would ever lead himself or anyone else to such a pitiful place as that.

A cause is a stance to right the atrocities perpetrated upon others, which is far different than a fad to elevate the status of others. And maybe the ‘cause’ that we should all take up is to confront the plague of fads.

It would seem that the belief that ‘everything is bad’ won’t quit dogging us until we’ve unconditionally surrendered the belief that ‘anything might be good.’ And if what is ‘bad’ fears what is ‘good’ to that degree, then I am left with the assumption that good left alive will eventually leave bad less than alive.
