If I can live without that which I seek, I have errantly chosen to seek something that is not worth seeking.

Despite all of our incessant tinkering, we can’t manufacture the things we most desperately need. And if perchance we do, they will never be more than pathetically emaciated facsimiles that will leave us emaciated. And until we finally realize that we can only ‘find’ these things, we will never sense any compulsion to ‘find’ God.

Men can dig wells, but they can’t create water.

Christmas is God coming to the very place that we would never think to look for Him. And I think He did that because we live in the very places that the world would never think to look for us.

I will eventually come to resemble that which I seek. Therefore, the outcome of seeking the praises of men verses the praises of God begs some serious consideration.

I have diligently disciplined my life to search out life’s gifts in the places where life stores its scraps.

Looking back, I now realize that I left home in search of all the things that were right in the very place I left.

It is true that when we seek great things we most often never find them, for we have created a sense of what great things look like, what the nature of them is, and in what manner they should arrive. And what we discover is that we are typically wrong on all accounts.

After digging a thousand wells of my own and stumbling upon a thousand others dug by the hands of thirsty men, I have yet to realize that the only well that can satiate every thirst is the one that men will never dig.
