In my impatience I become convinced that this desire of mine should have been fulfilled yesterday, when it belongs to a tomorrow that yesterday would have killed had I had my way.

Of necessity, our imagination must embrace the dark reality of ‘what is’ as a precursor to ‘what could be.’ For then and only then will we see in the darkness of today the certain light of tomorrow.

Where am I today?” I ask. Probably exactly where my attitude put me. “Where will I be tomorrow?” I ask. Same place, same answer.

Today is the one place where the lessons of a painful yesterday are drawn together to shape the face of a different tomorrow. And the phenomenal thing about all of that is that today happens seven days a week.

She’s gone,” I say over and over. And with her went the dreams that made my life worth the living. Yet, God is the crafter of new dreams that render old dreams so small that the pain of them is swallowed up in the promise of tomorrow.

Today is the fodder of tomorrow’s dreams, so we’d be wise to invest in today so that we don’t show up with empty hands tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s successes are evidence of yesterday’s dreams that have been wrestled alive by today’s sacrifices.

Despite how dark it might be, what is tonight but the precursor to tomorrow?

The sure path to tomorrow was plotted in a manger and paved on a cross. And although this sturdy byway is mine for the taking, I have incessantly chosen lesser paths. And maybe it is time to realize that Christmas is a promise that I can walk through the world and never get lost in the woods.
