I am thankful that there are those among us who have sacrificed dearly on behalf of us. And I ardently pray to God that I might be less like myself and more like them.

It’s not about changing the world, although that’s what we seem to rally around. Rather, it’s about changing ourselves for that is the seed from which changing the world sprouts.

If I can draw the slightest smile across a single face obliterated by pain, in that act I will have begun to understand the power of an ordinary human being to perform the seemingly impossible in the life of another human being. And how can that experience do anything less than drive me to try and make the world smile.

The gift in writing is not the accolades of having written. It's the peace of knowing that a life was changed because of what you wrote.

I sit leaned over praying in some state of darkening desperation asking God what He would have me do to get up and change a world gone wild. And He says, it is in the moments of prayer that you heal the wildness of the world. So it’s not about getting up as much as it is about sitting down.

Having the eyes of a child does not mean that we are naïve. Rather, it means that we’ve become brave enough to believe in a great good while simultaneously embracing the reality of a great evil.

One of the most horrific things that you can do to yourself is to discount the abilities that you have to change yourself.

In an apathetic world, change is not about the fact that we actually changed something. Rather, it’s far more about the fact that we actually decided to change something.

Words are precious vessels that carry within them meaning sufficiently stalwart to transform lives and alter the course of nations. And because of the commanding power that is housed within them, I prefer to say one word filled with its meaning than utter a thousand others that I have emptied of their meaning.
