Patience compels me to adjust my stride to the cadence of life, not the pace of my greed.

Wisdom’ and ‘greed’ sit at opposite ends of the continuum. And interestingly enough, they share the same place on the same continuum as ‘life’ and ‘death.’ And the person who is daring enough to be honest with themselves knows exactly which end they share.

It doesn’t take much intelligence to understand that obedience to greed can make us a slave to stupidity. Yet, I think that the power of greed is amply illustrated by simply taking note of how many intelligent people have chosen slavery.

Maturity means being able to accept the fact that sometimes the things that we wish for will create the histories that we don’t wish for.

We are averse to the truth because the truth is averse to our greed. And so we will either give up our greed and surrender to the truth, or we embrace our greed and surrender everything else.

To forget is to blithely toss aside the hard lessons that were hard won by others before us, thereby needlessly dooming us to endure the hard lessons that are likely to be forgotten by those who will follow us. And it is altogether reasonable that in order to avoid this repetitive trouncing, God graciously granted us memories.

Without exaggerating the point, the difference between ‘what I should do’ verses ‘what I want to do’ is quite frankly the difference between success and failure.

Right or not, I love two things more than anything else. First, I love me. Second, I love using you to love me. And if I were to add a third thing to this mess, it would be that neither of these are love.

Why in the world am I not finding what I want? It may be that I’m not looking for things where they are to be found. Rather, I’m looking for them in the places where I demand that they be found.
