When it comes to sacrifice, the glaring difference between myself and God is that for Him price is not a consideration. And while I hate to admit it, I find myself struggling to consider that that’s even possible.

I have made myself my own first-responder. And if I’m really all that good, why am I still laying at the scene of the accident?

To consider the rights of others before I exercise my own, to see my fellowman as my opportunity not my liability, and to understand that a life shaped by Biblical values is a life of deep endurance and raw power...to embrace all of this is to be the very thing that a wounded world is begging for.

Many are rather easily able to contemplate the heroism of sacrifice, yet it is the few who are brave enough to move that notion from thought to action. And it is to those of you who made that move that my heart salutes and my soul marvels.

Somewhere along the way, someone sacrificed enough to crush the rot of tyranny in order to plant the seeds of freedom. And if we don’t carefully tend to the harvest we will eventually inherit the tyranny.

If sacrifice is not the theme of my life, there’s no sense telling the story.

I don’t know that anything really new can be said about love, for something so imposing has long captured the attention and teased the words of untold millions, including myself. But in similar fashion, nothing new can be said of the struggle that I have to live it out in the way that I have so often written it out.

What I’m left with when I have nothing left is the satisfaction of knowing that I left nothing for myself in the service of someone else.

We can’t sufficiently define love with our words. Therefore, the only option that we’re left with is to show it in our actions. And if our actions don’t show it, the words don’t matter. Neither does anything else.
