I would rather die by my convictions than die by the culture that defies them.

Here’s the way to destroy your life in sixty seconds or less; convince yourself that something is ‘right’ simply because you want it to be, and then go act on it.

It has been said that my convictions served a generation that lived out its days in the backwaters of an ignorance fed comatose by intellectual stupor. And although I find it painful to say, I would contend that this is in fact an apt description of today’s generation.

I huddle in the dark with a mass of burnt matches strewn at my feet. And yet, for all of those matches I’ve not been able to light a single candle. And huddled in such deep darkness, I’ve somehow yet to realize that Christmas made both matches and candles forever obsolete.

I might wish to consider that upon which I stand, for in fact I may be standing on nothing which means that in reality I am not standing at all.

Possibly the most debilitating deception of all is to create a god of my own making, fool myself into believing that this limp god of mine is the true God, and then construct the entirety of my life on this flamboyantly fictional character. Possibly the most devastating realization of all is when the real God shows up, and in the showing up all of this come crashing down.

I am always trying to figure God out so that I can figure Him in. But after a while I figure that I should just let God be God, and figure that He’ll figure it all out anyway.

I am not big enough to be my own refuge, but my ego thinks itself big enough to be a refuge from that reality.

The length of the fall is dictated by how far we had climbed. The outcome of the fall is dictated by whether we’re holding on to that which we’re climbing, or we’re letting God hold onto us.
