My prayer is that none of us would ever find ourselves at the bottom of a hole looking up, but if we happen to find ourselves there my prayer would be that God would be at the top of the hole reminding us that He’s also at the bottom.

Tomorrow will be a culmination of all my today’s, not an escape from them.

Denial is the escape that never allows us to escape.

I’ve heard it said that it’s much easier to run ‘from’ life. That might be true, until we come to the realization that where we’re running ‘to’ will eventually be a whole lot worse than what we’re running ‘from.’ And as for any other places to which we might be able to run, every one of them will always fall into one of these two categories.

Whenever I’ve ‘jumped ship,’ I rarely ever land in the water. Rather, I tend to land on another ship that’s in just about as much trouble as the one I just jumped off of.

We are all on a journey. But if it’s not the journey to which we were called, we’ve confused a journey with a panicked retreat.

Of course I can run, but what I’m running from is the reality that I can’t run.

I can rather effectively protect myself from failure by crafting genuinely convincing rationales that justify my unwillingness to try. But I might consider the fact that an action such as this is the real failure. And there’s no protection in that.

Too often what we’ve defined as our calling is in fact the strategy that we have crafted as a means of running from our calling.
