I can ill-afford to turn the fickle propensity of my attitude into the rock hard conviction of a fact. For if my attitude is given that much room to run, it will run from the very ‘fact’ that it purports to be.

If I am the main character in my story, the script will be palpably shallow and the character development will be anything but compelling.

Too often fear is fiction madly running amuck, all the while madly tracking ‘muck’ across the floor of fact.

The belief in the ‘easy way’ is one of the greatest pieces of fiction mankind has ever created.

The conclusion that something is impossible is based on an evaluation of the resources that we possess as held in contrast to the size of the challenge. Yet, over and over the ‘fact’ that something is possible falls to the ‘fiction’ that it is impossible for the simple reason that our fear handily minimizes the former and heartedly exaggerates the latter.

I play the scenario of the hero out in my head, and in doing so I revel at the thought of boldly abating the darkness and saving the day. Yet, until I face the searing scourge of battle and am thickly bloodied by it, I will not understand that to imagine oneself as a hero without being laden with the scars of battle is fiction only. And if I am sufficiently brave, maybe someday I will turn that fiction to fact.

When pondering who I am, I write the fiction that I want directly over the facts that I hate. However, what I’ve discovered is that fiction is written in pencil while facts are in pen.

In its devious and stealthy way, a lie reinforced can begin to look like a truth that we desperately hoped wasn’t true. But we must always remember that no amount of reinforcement will ever make a lie the truth. Ever.

The ‘fact’ that it can’t be done is ‘fiction’ for the man with vision.
