To forgo every achievement that would demand the sacrifice of our character is by far one of the greatest achievements of all.

Too often our convictions are based on what is convenient. For if convictions are convenient, they are neither.

How often have I lifted my foot to take a peek at what I’m standing on, only to discover that there’s nothing there and that I’ve been confusing ‘falling’ with ‘standing.

If I should be so foolish as to hold ethics as the ignorance of a generation long passed, my life will pass in the ignorance of a generation that handed me what was genius.

Sometimes the most mature words that we can say are “I don’t know.” For it is not knowledge that evidences my worth. Rather, it’s the knowledge that an honest man is worth a thousand who are not.

Accountability is where the cowardice of my teetering self-image is wrangled into submission by the force of my ethics.

Truth is the thing that protects me from chasing the stuff that will rather quickly end up chasing me.

If I am bending the truth because it refuses to adhere to my agenda, I must realize that in the bending the truth has forewarned me that I am not crafting an agenda at all. Rather, I am crafting the trajectory of my own demise. And even though I adamantly reject such a notion as preposterous, it is a truth that I cannot bend.

Ethics and morals are not designed to keep us from walking off the cliff. Rather, they’re designed to keep us from creating the cliffs that we walk off of.
