The art of living is to rise above lesser things so that we can truly enjoy great things. And the message of Christmas is the greatest of all things.

Great things come in small things, for only small things have enough space to contain them.

Might it be that I chose to invest my life in something ‘good’ so that I could avoid the fear of investing in something ‘great?

A great man beats his fears into submission, while everyone else around him is beaten into submission.

Anyone can pursue great things. But, it is the wise person who, having exhausted themselves in the pursuit of great things, is able to surrender such a pursuit having finally recognized that small things are the great things.

The utterly frightening thing about great things is that we don’t know where they’re taking us, we can’t control them, and we’ll never be able to return to what we left. And are those things not the things that make great things great?

Risk is the clue that our dreams are both real and great.

True greatness rests in seeing life as a gift and then treating it that way. And if a person can do both of those, then they are truly great. If they cannot, then to think that they are great is to be greatly mistaken.

It is true that when we seek great things we most often never find them, for we have created a sense of what great things look like, what the nature of them is, and in what manner they should arrive. And what we discover is that we are typically wrong on all accounts.
