It is likely that you remain incessantly troubled and fitfully anxious because you have sought out refuge in some person or institution that is at the very same time attempting to find refuge for themselves. For the only Person Who is His own refuge in order to be ours is God.

When circumstances ‘take the wind out of us,’ we would be wise to turn to the God Who can take the wind out of the circumstances.

If we are to believe in a future that we cannot see, we must learn to believe in many things that we cannot see. The first thing would be God. And the second would the bit of Himself that He placed within each of us.

I do not want people to come to Jesus because of the crisis of the moment. That is both shallow and horribly reactionary. Rather, I would want people to allow the crisis of the moment to show them all of the reasons why not coming to Jesus before the crisis was the real crisis.

The desire of my heart is to fill my heart with everything that is of God so that there is no space for anything that is of greed. For once I have been filled in just such a manner, the desire of my heart has finally become the reality of my existence.

I want to have a robust vision for what God can do, but I want to have an equally robust passion to get out of His way so that He can do it.

We trust many things that can't be trusted because at some fundamentally primal level we desperately wish that there was, so we settle for what we cannot when right in front of us there's a God that we can.

Until God gives up, I cannot. And because He won’t, I can’t.

I make messes. God makes masterpieces. And the difference is found in surrendering what I think I know to the God who knows without having to think.
