I would wonder if the depravity in our world survives on the lie that our depth can’t overcome it.

Sometimes it seems that giving up is really not about surrender at all. Rather, it’s about the person trying to convince themselves that they were actually fighting in the first place.

Too often words are used to envelope pithy and rank agendas in the garments of justice, piety and all things good. And the worst of it is not that I have fooled others through this abuse of syntax. Rather, the worst of it is that I’ve fooled myself.

To give optimism a hand up, we must come to understand that behind the mask of pessimism there is nothing more than fear bent on knocking us down.

Because we refuse to acknowledge something doesn’t mean that it’s not staring us right in the face.

Just putting a sign on the road does nothing to change where that road is going.

I tend to think that our arrogance peaks at those times when we think that we can trade truth for our makeshift renditions. But as I think about that a bit more, maybe it’s less arrogance and more outright ignorance.

Have we traded the good of mankind for the agenda of our kind?

As odd as it seems, the road to opportunity often has this huge sign that reads “Bridge Out.” Having ignored the sign and now finding myself laying flat on my back at the bottom of some ‘opportunity,’ I look up and wonder if the opportunity that I had was to learn what an opportunity is, and what it is not.
