The emptiness in our lives is due to the ‘absence of all the right things,’ and the ‘presence of all the wrong things.’ And if there’s some sort of silver-lining to be found in feeling empty, it’s that we’ve been successful at doing both of the above.

Intent without action will leave every word that I use to describe my intent as empty and best never having been said.

Until I realize that it’s all I gift, I can hold all of it and yet receive none of it.

A hole is a space where everything has been moved out so that opportunity has space to move in.

Of course the miraculous resides in the mundane, for the genius of the mundane is that it is never filled with any of itself. And because it is not, it has ample space to house something as miraculous as the miraculous.

The ledger of my life can lean heavy with a prolific array of stellar investments, yet in the tallying I would be wise to remember that an investment that is not of God will leave a zero balance on the ledger of my life no matter how many different ways I try to add it up.

The more we possess, the emptier we become. And in such a life-destroying dynamic, the solution is not to possess less. Rather, it’s to realize that we ourselves are a possession. And in surrendering ourselves to the God who desires to possess the whole of us, there is then no shred of emptiness left within us.
