One cannot be greedy as long as he has pride. Greed will put Pride aside.

When there is greed within; a person shall fall into societal influence.

Take a ride in a rickshaw and go on dropping money along the road. Your greedy nature will go away.

What does greed mean? It means to take away things that belong to others.

In unfavorable circumstances, kashays (anger-pride-deceit-greed) occur, and in favorable circumstances, more kashays occur. However, the kashays of favorable circumstances are cold. Those are raag kashays (attachment kashays) and they include greed and deceit. Whereas, in unfavorable circumstances, there are dwesh kashays (abhorrence kashays) such as anger and pride.

Control over anger-pride-deceit-greed is known as saiyam. Saiyam, in turn has two parts; in one, there is presence of anger-pride-deceit-greed but they are controllable; they do not harm the other person to the slightest extent. The other saiyam is like 'ours' [the Gnani's]. There is absolutely no anger-pride-deceit-greed at all in that. It not only does not harm the other person, but it also does not harm one's own self.

The only difference between a Gnani and a renunciate is that the Gnani prevails in a state of saiyam (absence of anger-pride-deceit-greed and attachment-abhorrence), whereas a renunciate follows a set discipline. No one besides a Gnani can remain in saiyam.  

Actually, on the path of liberation, One attains saiyam (a state in which there is absence of anger-pride-deceit-greed, attachment and abhorrence) from the Gnani Purush, and through that saiyam, liberation is attained. Without saiyam, there is no liberation.

To dislike something with egoism has been referred to as renunciation (tyaag). Whereas if dislike arises for something whilst in an egoless state, that is considered as saiyam (a state in which there is absence of anger-pride-deceit-greed and attachment-abhorrence).
