Storytelling creates a healing serum. The thematic unguent of our personal story represents a fusion of the ineffable truths that each of us must discover within ourselves.

Every day of life, we create a story, which discursive script will someday become only a memory.

Akin to any other human being’s creations composed from inspirational toil, the textual rendering of a person depicted in personal essay writing asserts an existence independent of the author. A personal writing voice speaks to me from a secluded mental closet. Writing makes private mental musings a public act.

Writing is an exhausting and demoralizing task that destroys human conceits. Writing an elongated series of personal essay opens a person’s mind to explore paradoxes and discover previously unrealized personal truths. Writing is as arduous as any trek into the wilderness. Every sentence takes a writer deeper into the jungle of the mind, a world of frightening inconsistencies created by our waking life’s desire that the world of chaos conform to our convenience.

An essayist, unlike a fiction writer, needs to establish their objective reliability, equitable sincerity, intellectual integrity and maintain their authoritative trustworthiness because they are an acknowledged reporter of true events and relating or applying the ideas and principles of their sources.

Telling our story enables a person to gain an enhanced perspective on life. I seek to employ the inherent vulnerability of narrative storytelling to discover how to live free of despair and anxiety, make an unconditional commitment to living a finite life without remorse and regret, and devote the remaining term of life to making a meaningful commitment to create a vivid testament that survives my physical demise.

The more that I write the more vivid is my personal history of conducting a lonely battle with a demented self. The act of writing ramifies in my mind each episode in life that subtly altered my native composition. Writing my history in a narrative format allows me to perceive my extant life as a whole rather than as intervallic and disconnected happenings. Writing a chronological and episodic personal history enabled me to identify the thematic content of my unified personal story.
