Though it pained me, I gave in. Why was it that I repeatedly succumbed to the first whisper of a promised maybe? How did the enticer, hope, always find my heart unguarded? There was no such thing as hope. Not for me. Why was it so hard to accept that?

The road of life is paved with daily successes, a great number of them penny and nickle triumphs. Sadly, these little feats are often seen as worthless―even failures―because we dream of greater gain. Our greed keeps us focused on a gleaming pot of gold waiting at the end of some elusive rainbow. And, despairing a big loss, we fail to see the value in small achievements.

Disappointments are healthy for us. They tame egos, deflate pride, and soften hearts while cultivating respect for the struggles experienced by all humanity.

Disappointment is really just a term for our refusal to look on the bright side.

When you used to think so highly of someone and then one day realize you were blind to things that screamed 'not a person of honorable character at all.'

Should-haves are the devil’s greatest tool against our personal progress. He shouts in our ears that they are failures, while God calmly whispers they are lessons.

Discouragement is like a scorpion in your shoe; it takes courage to toss it out so you can move on.
