A liar deceives himself more than anyone, for he believes he can remain a person of good character when he cannot.

Honesty is considerably more than the absence of lying. It is the absence of deception, of cheating, of stealing, of treachery, of guile. But that is not all, honesty is the inclusion of virtuous characteristics as well: loyalty, justness, truth, accuracy, reliance, sincerity, openness. Honesty is every word, every action, and every intention being both bare and noble.

Deceit, distortion, misdirection, and concealment are all lies in altered masks.

I can overlook the lie; what's harder to ignore is the grotesque way it has marred your character.

Lies don't fit snugly into disguises. Eventually the cloak falls off and you're left staring at the naked truth which is always an uncomfortable situation.

Lying is wrong. When you tell a lie for the sake of sparing someone's feelings it is not suddenly right, but it is compassionate. And is not compassion a form of love? Love—the greatest of all virtues! So, my darling, I do wrong for you. I lie that you might feel loved.

I am accountable for every lie that I tell, but I am also accountable for the effects of every harsh truth I deliver.
