It is my experience that once you return to the Joy Giver, joy isn’t far behind.

When God sets us free from the strongholds in our lives, we’re free to experience His strong hold.

My issue isn’t actually with sugar, or with food, but with hunger—misplaced, insatiable hunger.

Each time I forget to feast, I fast in order to remember.

We suffer spiritually each time we reach for a sugar high rather than the Most High. Our sugar fixation stops us from fixing our eyes on Jesus, and hungering for sweet treats gets in the way of our hunger and thirst for Him.

Fasting from physical food increases one’s spiritual hunger, and that’s the hunger that leads not only to a transformed body but also to a transformed life.

Don’t simply switch your obsession with sugar for a sugar-free obsession—obsess over the One who cares more about transforming your life than transforming your diet.

It is absolutely possible to read the Bible, fast and pray, feel convicted, and still choose to remain unchanged.

Fasting is abiding on a gut level—an empty gut level.
