Daly","H",21,"Herman Daly was an American economist whose career, marked by a long engagement with questions that reached beyond conventional economic boundaries, earned him recognition from institutions spanning multiple disciplines and continents.\n\nBorn in Houston on July 21, 1938, Daly pursued his education at Rice University and Vanderbilt University, training as an economist in the years when his profession was still consolidating its postwar assumptions. His academic formation led eventually to a position as a senior economist at the World Bank, a post he held from 1988 to 1994. After leaving the World Bank, he joined the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he held a professorship.\n\nThe honors Daly received over his lifetime were numerous and came from a range of fields. He was awarded the Right Livelihood Award, the Blue Planet Prize, the Sophie Prize, the Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought, the Dr A. H. Heineken Prize for Environmental Sciences, the Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen Award, and the Grawemeyer Awards. That a single economist accumulated distinctions of such varied provenance speaks to the reach of his professional reputation across academic and policy communities.\n\nDaly died on October 28, 2022, in Richmond. Among the awards he received, the Grawemeyer Awards stand as a concrete marker of the esteem in which his work was held late in his life, and the Leontief Prize — given for advancing the frontiers of economic thought — offers a precise, verifiable measure of how his peers and judges characterized the contribution he made to his discipline.","Herman Daly was an American economist whose career, marked by a long engagement with questions that reached beyond conventional economic boundaries, earned him recognition from institutions spanning multiple disciplines and continents.","herman-e-daly",null,[14],{"tag_id":15,"tag_name":16,"tag_count":17},79,"economics",6,{"quotes":19,"pagination":81},[20,27,33,39,45,51,57,63,69,75],{"id":21,"quote_text":22,"author_id":5,"source_id":17,"has_image":23,"author":24,"source":25,"quote_tag":26,"commentary":12},3077235,"The economy has gotten bigger, the ecosystem has not.
