Anywhere you have an active level of climbing, you're going to see fixed anchors. There are different kinds of fixed anchors, from a bolt drilled into a rock or an old-time piton hammered into a crack. It's everything from the actual hardware to nylon webbing wrapped around an outcrop. They provide protection for climbers and are particularly useful when you're coming down or rappelling.
