During another shift I worked, three men were killed in three separate accidents. I was just smart enough to realize that that wasn’t particularly the way I wanted to die, so I changed professions. Even though, as a mining engineer, I wouldn’t have had to go down into the mines myself, I didn’t want to send anyone else down there, either.
