Wherever there is ego, meditation (dhyan) does not exist. The inherent nature of the ego is such that dhyan does not exist when the ego is present. Therefore, when dhyan arises it is a resultant state, it is not an activity. Dhyan is the effect that arises from whatever activity the ego does.
