It is because of the practice of meditation--stopping, calming, and looking deeply--that I have been able to nourish and protect the sources of my spiritual energy and continue this work.

When we believe that ours is the only faith that contains the truth, violence and suffering will surely be the result ... learn and practice nonattachment from views in order to receive others' viewpoints.

When we look into the heart of a flower, we see clouds, sunshine, minerals, time, the earth, and everything else in the cosmos in it. Without clouds, there could be no rain, and there would be no flower. Without time, the flower could not bloom. In fact, the flower is made entirely of non flower elements; it has no independent, individual existence. It 'inter-is' with everything else in the universe.

If you have experienced hunger, you know that having food is a miracle. If you have suffered from the cold, you know the preciousness of warmth. When you have suffered, you know how to appreciate the elements of paradise that are present. If you dwell only in your suffering, you will miss paradise. Don't ignore your suffering, but don't forget to enjoy the wonders of life, for your sake and for the benefit of many beings.

The son needs the father to have access to his source, and the father needs the son to have access to the future and the infinite.

If you can be aware that you have a living body, and notice when there's tension in your body, that's already an important insight.

To take good care of ourselves, we must go back and take care of the wounded child inside of us. You have to practice going back to your wounded child every day. You have to embrace him or her terderly, like a big brother or a big sister. You have to talk to him, talk to her. And you can write a letter to the Little child in you, of two or three pages, to that you recognize his or her presence, and will do everything you can to heal his or her wounds.

Meditation is to be aware of what is going on: in your body, in your feelings, in your mind, and in the world.

If you wish to have children, please do something for the world you will bring them into. That will make you someone who works for peace, in one way or another.
