It seems that in almost all societies, the attitudes that people have to language change is basically the same. People everywhere tend to say that the older form of a language is in some sense 'better' than the form that is being used today.

He definitely wasn't trying to hit the ball over the fence. This was about getting your balance, your bearings, hitting with the wind blowing. I thought he had a very good day on the rehab trail.

I think that might be his own personal feeling. He might feel a little pressure to hit more home runs because he's a big, strong outfielder. But for me, the home runs really aren't a factor. It would be nice, but that's not my main objective with Luis.

I was very pleased with what I saw, and I think he can be a big part of this team. First, we are going to go about trying to develop a .300 hitter. And if the home runs follow, that would be great. You can hit for power without having the ball go over the fence. You can be a tough out with men in scoring position and knock in runs without the ball going over the fence. If you knew Val like we know him in the organization, you wouldn't be terribly surprised that he's progressed so fast. He's a real hard worker. Sometimes, believe it or not, he works too hard and you have to back him off a little bit. I remember him when I was with Baltimore. When Kirby came up to home plate, he was so doggone dangerous. He could take you out in left field. He could take you out in right field. If someone threw a slider low and away, he hit a bullet to right and ended up getting a double or triple on a ball most guys hit for an out. If you brought the ball up and in, he'd turn on you. I want to make sure that's the Kirby Puckett we have in Minnesota in 1991.
