If by growing up you mean allowing the adult within me to abandon the child within me, I have no interest in such a horrid proposition. If instead you mean to let each enhance the other at the exclusion of neither, I have every interest.

Having the eyes of a child does not mean that we are naïve. Rather, it means that we’ve become brave enough to believe in a great good while simultaneously embracing the reality of a great evil.

Every parent is an artist, for the bared canvas of a newborn’s soul begs for the artist’s touch. And because this is so, a parent must prepare the palette with the utmost care, choose the brushes with poised caution, and mindfully attend to every brushstroke regardless of how slight. And such caution is utterly imperative for the emerging rendering will be both a legacy borne of the parent, and a life lived by the child.

I think that one of the greatest achievements in becoming an adult is to carefully cultivate the child within us so that the adult that we are becoming is never given enough room to destroy us.

The art of becoming an adult is creating a place for child, for the former without the latter leaves us being less than half of what we could be and none of what we were supposed to be.

I’m not so sure that the adult within me teaches the child within me. Rather, I think that the child does most of the educating.

We simply relegate the child within us to some place where it will not interrupt adulthood. But do we not realize that it is the act of doing that that interrupts adulthood?

To abandon the child ‘within’ means that the adult ‘without’ will be an adult in name only. And frankly, I can only name a handful of things that are that tragic.

The adult within me would be much wiser to learn from the child within me rather than focus on the demand that the child within me grow up.
