A great leader is someone who first mastered the art of following.

To lead is to serve. Conversely, to serve is to lead. And if either of these elements are removed from the equation, we’ll soon find that we’re doing neither.

If you want to completely destroy a child, all you have to do is mold them into your vision of what you want them to be. If you want to completely liberate a child, all you have to do is grow them into the person they were created to be. The former cannot see God in the child. The latter can see nothing less.

To lead solely on the behalf of those being led is the utter pinnacle of fatherhood, and it is sad that so few ever stand on the summit.

A true leader never has to put his ‘big boy pants on’ because he’s never taken them off.

The most formidable way to lead is to serve. And while the perplexing oxymoron of such a grinding statement absolutely cripples us, it birthed a Savior.

The drum to which we march reveals the conductor to whom we’re listening.

Leadership must embody servanthood, for without it leadership will become the embodiment of our selfish agendas. And leadership of that sort will lead us to places that none of us want to go to.

To lead is to put myself below another so that I can lift up another. And true leadership means that I will keep them in that position and me in mine.
