They stopped right in front of a grandfather tree with a deep knothole between two arm-like branches. The kids glanced at each other, but did not speak a word.

Their very special, very very favorite ornament continued to inspire them that Christmas and for all the Christmases that followed.

It was the most beautiful but curious, ornament I had ever seen. I couldn't take my eyes off it.

And I knew that one day, when my kids were old enough, I would pass on the magic ornament
