There was even a book dedicated to survival in a Zombie Apocalypse, although, at the time it was written, it was intended as a joke. Now, it was irony.

When I was in the Army, I was trained to survive, not to wait to die. Make no mistake. I am leaving this city one way or another.

They knew if they remained in the city for much longer, they would be stuck and eventually run out of food. Their only hope of survival was to leave the city and meet up with the others.

Never before did the second amendment mean so much to the people of the United States. There were many well-regulated militias that became necessary for the security of every state, which meant the right of the people to keep and bear arms was detrimental for their survival and that right should not be infringed. Otherwise, the strong would surely overpower the weak.

He began stealing as a means of survival, but later did it just to go back to jail. At least, while in prison, he was able to get free room and board. He learned to play the system and allow it to work for him.

Living off the land took a lot of getting used to for these city folk. They had to learn how to garden and grow their own crops. Of course, they were learning how to hunt and clean their prey, so it could be cut up and cooked. Smoking the meat was another necessary lesson to be learned.

Thanks for the sympathy. I appreciate it. We are trying to be strong for the benefit of the group. We can’t afford to break down and cry for every friend we lose. Not while we still have a job to do. Once we get to safety, who knows how we’ll react? I’m trying hard to push my feelings aside and focus on staying alive, but as you said, it’s not easy.

Thanks, but I’ve been in survival mode for three days already. I won’t be ready to turn it off, until I can go home and be myself, again.

His survival had to come, first, before he could even think to help anyone else. That’s just how it had to be.
