Who after receiving wealth is not proud? Which licentious person’s calamities have ended? Whose heart women have not shattered on this earth? Who is always loved by the king? Who has not suffered the ravages of time? Which beggar has attained glory? Who has skilfully walked the worldly path after falling in the evil of evil persons?

In a man of discrimination, merits acquire the desired recognition; in gold when a gem is set, it sparkles most appropriately.

In wealth, in living life, in women, and in eating, all beings have remained unsatisfied; so have they gone and so will they go.

By offering loving sentences, all beings are satisfied; thus, such sentences only should be spoken; in speech why should one be miserly?

The worldly poisonous tree has only two nectar-like fruits; well-spoken words and the delicious company of cultured people.

For a person with a pure heart, wherein is the need for a pilgrimage? For a person who gives and gets respect from others, wherein is the need for acquiring other virtue? For a man decorated with fame, of what value is other ornamentation? For a man having true knowledge, wherein is the need for wealth? For a man dishonoured, what could be worse in death?

When a man is devoid of strength, he becomes an ascetic; when a man is without wealth, he behaves like a celibate; when a man is sick, he becomes a devotee of god; and when a woman grows old, she becomes faithful to her husband.

The snake has poison in its fang, the fly on its head, the scorpion in its tail, but an evil person is poisonous in all parts.
