Anita S. Nairn, later known as Anita Moorjani, was born on 6 November 1958 in New Delhi, India. Her family relocated to Hong Kong when she was four years old. At the age of 2, Anita contracted a rare form of cancer called uterine adenocarcinoma.

After moving back to Singapore at the age of 21, Anita married her husband Danny Moorjani and became pregnant with their son. However, during her pregnancy in 2006, Anita's body began to shut down due to complications related to her cancer.
